Softball Coaching Aids – Fake Legs
Try these softball coaching aids for a great practice! This is a softball drill that I use with my team to teach tagging the runner in the slide. I wish I could take credit for it, but it was shown to me by a local high school softball coach.
Most softball coaches have the girls go through the motion of making a tag, but you can take this one step further. We have “legs” that we pull across the base to simulate an actual runner.
Make some fake “legs” fabricated from 2x4s and even an old piece of railing rung. Have a shoe on the end and a pant leg on the “leg” with a rope fastened around the ankle. Have either a coach or a player pull the “leg” across the base as the fielder makes the tag.
This has really improved our team’s ability to make a good throw to the baseman and the baseman to get the glove to the tag.
