Softball Coaching – Concentration Drill
Softball coaching requires the ability to teach mental focus and concentration as well as teaching the physical skills of playing softball.
One softball drill I start my players with after a warm up is a concentration drill. The softball coach faces the kids with a softball in hand and the kids watch in several lines facing the coach.
When the coach raises his arms the kids get ready; when the coach moves the ball to the left the kids shuffle to the left (actually to their right) like they are going after a grounder, same thing to the right. When the coach raises the ball up to the sky the kids react like they are going after a fly ball and in unison slap their glove as the ‘ball arrives’. When coach goes to the ground the kids react like they are going to field a grounder.
This drill gets the players mentally thinking and it is fun!!
