Fence Drill for Softball Fielding

The Fence Drill is an excellent softball fielding drill that you can use to get your players used to taking and striding out, and then releasing and stepping through. The mechanics of the fielding throw is important for your players to understand and practice consistently. The power needed for successful outfield play can be improved by including this softball fielding drill in your practice plan.

Breaking Down the Softball Fielding Drill

Grab the fence and stride out wide so that the arm is stretched but still holding the fence.

Shift the hips out, with weight on the front leg. You want to get enough power in the front leg to help you fire the ball when you throw.

Release the hand holding the fence, and throw. Follow the throw with the step through in a smooth and efficient, powerful motion.
