Last week, I sent out a request for my newsletter subscribers to send in one of their best [tag]youth fastpitch softball coaching tips[/tag]. Check out this one below on [tag]team building[/tag].
From Kevin…
This maybe a little thing. But each [tag]softball[/tag] season we get new girls and returning girls to our team, and one of the hardest things is to get the girls to relax and get to know each other.
Even with 20 games in a season some don’t even know each other by the end of the season. So I pair them up with someone they don’t know. That pair will do [tag]warm ups[/tag] together, do line throwing together, run laps together, bathroom breaks together, etc.
Except for [tag]drills[/tag] they have to be with each other the entire practice, and randomly throughout practice I ask the girls questions about themselves and their partners to try to get them to talk and loosen up with each other.
I try to make sure I pair one of my returning “outgoing” players with a quiet shy non-outgoing new player to get them more involved in the team.
